Our bodies are incredible movement systems, that when looked after well, allow us to do what we love and achieve great things, which in turn helps us feel good and happy. In the same way that we need to brush our teeth every day, we need to look after our muscles and joints regularly to keep them healthy. Pilates is a great way to do a whole-body workout, while also having some fun.

With Christmas coming up and for many of us our New Year fitness resolutions around the corner too, we are excited to announce the launch of our bespoke Private Pilates classes for a small group of friends or family to help you stay fit while having fun over the festive season

Now some of you may wonder, why Pilates is good for you?

Many people think that core stability is about how many sit-ups or crunches they can do.

But this is not the case.

Having a strong core is about how well our body can stabilize us and keep us balanced against gravitational or external forces during movement, such as the momentum from the movement of our limbs. Most people don’t realize that there are many ways that the body can compensate by using other muscles instead of your core to stabilize your body.

So how can we work on our core while making sure we do not compensate with other muscles like our neck and shoulders at the same time?

Pilates are an effective way we can mindfully learn to strengthen our core while learning to minimise compensatory movements. Pilates can be adapted to suit any level of fitness, or injuries, as well as support athletic performance. Pilates will help you build muscle by utilising your body weight for resistance training to build muscle strength while being low-impact for your joints.

We offer the following classes in SPEAR Aberdeen:

1:1 Pilates

Our 1:1 sessions comprise an individualized assessment and understanding of how your body moves and what compensatory strategies you may be using without realizing it. We go through foundational principles and exercises to ensure that you feel muscle activation in the right areas.

Group Pilates Classes

We currently offer different level classes, which are run in 5-6 week blocks to help you build on the exercises from the previous weeks. We also introduce you to small equipment like the ova ball and Pilates ring to strengthen your core further. For more information on our classes and which level would suit you best, please contact our Pilates Team.

Private Pilates Classes

These bespoke classes are tailor-made for a group of friends/family up to a maximum of 4 people to allow for more personalized attention. Let us know what you would like to work on whether it is general strength and conditioning, flexibility, relaxation, or a mixture of everything, and we will design a class just for you!
