Pilates Co-ordinator

Laura graduated in 2002 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and is an APPI Certified Matwork Pilates Instructor. Laura worked both in the NHS and privately as a Physiotherapist in Edinburgh after graduating and started working in SPEAR in 2014. She taught Pilates alongside working as a Physiotherapist. Although now based in London, Laura continues to lead our Pilates service and is our Pilates Coordinator. Her role involves overseeing our Pilates service, and she returns regularly to Aberdeen to lead the Pilates inservice program.
‘What I love most about Pilates is that it is suitable for almost anybody, and that you are never ‘finished’. There is always another way to challenge yourself and become stronger, more flexible and with better ability to function.

I also love the sense of community that builds within a class. We work you hard, but we all get to know each other, so the class is not a chore, but fun at the same time. Clients leave feeling like they’ve done something really beneficial for their bodies.

My favourite exercise is shoulder bridge because it provides so many benefits: stronger glutes and hamstrings as well as flexibility. There are also a huge number of variations that we can use when we teach, and so it almost never feels like the same exercise twice
