Isla graduated from RGU in 2016 with a BSc (Hons)Physiotherapy. Whilst training to be a Physiotherapist Isla carried out her Massage Training and worked as a Sports Massage Therapist with out Massage partners Aberdeen Sports Massage. Her “hands on” and patient care skills were head hunted and Isla moved across to the Physiotherapy team at SPEAR in August 2016. Isla was one of the first newly qualified Physiotherapists to go through our structured Mentorship programme and is testament to the success of this programme.
From a young age, Isla competed in 400-meter hurdling at nation level, however due to Injury she was unable to continue. Thus, she has a keen interest in sports rehabilitation to help others reach their goals. Isla is a great addition to the musculoskeletal team as understands the importance of graduating loading when returning from injury and has a plethora of interesting rehabilitation exercises.
Isla particularly enjoys Rehabilitation and in Summer 2017 started working with the Neurological Rehabilitation team part-time. This interest was ignited during her literature review at University and she has been able to combine both work within the Musculoskeletal and Neurological teams at SPEAR with a real focus on rehabilitation with both. Isla has successfully rehabilitated a number of clients with long term rehabilitation needs.
Isla’s recently completed a Masters lower limb Anatomy module to further her understanding of lower limb mechanics. This has led to some interesting and deep discussions in clinic about the role of the lower limb muscles and how best to rehabilitate them.
Isla works full-time at our Aberdeen Sports Village and Westhill Clinics and has both daytime and evening appointments.
